Apple has released iOS 5.1 along with the new iPad 3 and you might have upgraded your device to iOS 5.1. If you want to downgrade iOS 5.0.1, 4.3.5, 4.3.4, 4.3.3 on iPhone 4, 3GS, iPad 1 and iPod Touch, then you can use Redsn0w 0.9.10b5 to do so but you must have saved SHSH Blobs of the firmware you’re downgrading to, otherwise you’re out of luck. Moreover, A5 devices which include iPhone 4S and iPad 2 can’t be downgraded even with saved SHSH Blobs.
People relying on jailbreak are advised to stay away from iOS 5.1 because they will loose their jailbreak. Here’s the tutorial.
How To Downgrade iOS 5.1 To iOS 5.0.1, 4.3.5, 4.3.4, iOS 4.3.3 On iPhone, 4, 3GS, iPad and iPod Touch
Download
Redsn0w 0.9.10b5
Also download the IPSW File of the firmware you want to downgrade to. You should have saved SHSH Blobs of that firmware.
Step 1: After getting latest Redsn0w, run it.
Step 2: Choose Extras option and then Pwned DFU option.
Step 3: Plug your iDevice to the Computer and put your device into DFU Mode by following the on-screen instructions.
Step 4: Now you need to make a modification in hosts file so iTunes connect to Cydia Server instead of Apple. Head over to following paths. You can use Notepad in Windows and Textedit in Mac to open file.
- Windows Path : C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\
- Mac Path : /etc/hosts
Step 5: Add the following line at the end of the file and save it.
- 74.208.105.171 gs.apple.com
Step 6: Now run iTunes, hold down Shift key on Windows and alternatively Alt Key on Mac and press Restore button. Now choose the IPSW file you want to restore to. Congrats! Downgrade process is now complete.
