Edit Clipboard Content Directly From iOS 5 Notification Center

Ever since the introduction of iOS 5, Notification Center based tweaks have been all the rage. It seems that barely a day passes by without a developer dreaming up a new way to use the Notification hub for jailbreak purposes. Developer Ron Melkihor has come up with ClipboardEdit for Notification Center, which as the name might suggest allows jailbroken users to manipulate copied text strings directly through NC.

Using the iOS copy functionality is something that doesn’t really happen a great deal in my own personal day to day usage of my device, however, I am pretty sure there are a lot of people out there who use it regularly to snip data from one place and paste it to another, or use it to copy things like URLs from the web to review at a later date. The ClipboardEdit tweak effectively hooks into that copy and paste functionality by creating a new section within Notification Center that automatically reads from the clipboard and displays the text.

Once the text has been copied, the user can then simply invoke Notification Center and alter it in a way they find fit for usage. When the editing is complete, the finished article is then overwritten over the original clipboard content ready and is then ready to be pasted into another app or be shared via email or text message. This tweak might prove quite handy for those who use the copy and paste function regularly, however it seems like you would be downloading this purely for convenience as it doesn’t achieve anything that can’t be done just by copying the information to the Notes application.

The tweak also only works with text-based content, meaning that if you were to tap and hold on an image and select the ‘copy‘ pop up, the tweak would not recognize the image as being in the clipboard. ClipboardEdit for Notification Center is a free of charge download, available from the BigBoss repository.
